Join Locks Heath Rotary Club for this special inaugural concert on the Compton cinema organ formerly installed at the ABC/Forum Cinema in Southampton, on Wednesday 3rd October 2018 at 6.45 for 7.00 p.m. at Titchfield Festival Theatre, PO14 4BG

The Southampton Forum Cinema Organ was made by Compton in 1934 and was one of the finest organs they ever built. As well as delighting cinema goers in the 30’s, it was also used extensively by  the BBC during the war years to provide entertainment to the nation, the forces and the commonwealth. It most famous resident organist was Reginald Porter-Brown, affectionately dubbed "the organist with three hands" due to his unusual styke of self accompaniment.

Like many organs, it was removed in the 70’s when the cinema organ fell out of fashion and spent the intervening years in a number of private residences.
It was found & bought by Bernard Tilley, one of the last trained cinema organists on the Granada Circuit, about 6 years ago, and put into storage, just to stop it being dismantled for spares.

When Titchfield Festival Theatre underwent an extensive ‘make-over’ in 2016-2017, with the addition of a new floor, local Rotarian Chris  Milburn, thought it would be a good idea to install a theatre organ at the venue. This was enthusiatically backed by the theatre manager, Kevin Fraser, who said “You find an organ and I will give you the space”. Chris was put into contact with Bernard, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The evening will comprise of :
