End Polio Now Campaign

Today Rotary@Kingsholm planted 1000 crocus corms on the via sacra outside the Eastgate market. Thanks go to Gloucester City Council, Gloucester BID and Gloucester City Safe for supporting our planting

Jazz Night at Warehouse 4

Tonight we be featuring the music of Kim & Mike Cypher @ Warehouse 4, Gloucester docks in aid of Linc, “Leukaemia & Intensive Chemotherapy Fund” Tickets £25 to include a Hog Roast. Click details for more information

Rice Cooker for Windrush

Today we will be presenting Windrush with a 23-litre capacity rice cooker. Windrush provides over 100 weekly meals to deprived families in Gloucester. It is run by volunteers with little income. All the help they receive is much appreciated

Gloucester Day Celebrations and Parade

Gloucester Day celebrating lifting the Siege of Gloucester in 1643. With partners from Glos City Safe and BID, we will man a stall to raise awareness and collect for our Accessible Defibrillator Campaign. We will also take part in the Glos Day Parade

Today 1000 crocus corms donated by Rotary@Kingsholm were planted by Hillfield Gardens’ community gardening team around where a tree from the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’s Tree of Trees will be planted in November

Gloucester Brewery @ Warehouse4

We gave a surprise rendition of happy birthday outside his house. Peter thanked "the massed choir” Saying it was a surprise is the understatement of the year. I am normally not lost for words but members giving their time in coming to sing overwhelmed me

£634 raised for Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal

Today as part of our service to the community, we proudly collected for Marie Currie Cancer Care and Support as part of their Great Daffodil Appeal. This gave us an opportunity to give time to support a charity which in itself supports many.

Andy Osmond, Senior Leader, Mariners Church, Gloucester Docks

Mariners opened in Feb 1849 primarily for the workers at Gloucester Docks and crews of moored vessels. With the demise of Gloucester as a major port, the church was in danger of becoming redundant. Regeneration of the docks has provided new opportunities

Visit to Masonry's Workshop, Gloucester Cathedral

Tonight we had a rare insight into the work of the stone masons at Gloucester Cathedral from basic stone blocks to finished gargoyles. A cheque was presented to enable the masons to purchase bespoke traditional tools to assist them in their work

Treasure Hunt around Alney Island, Gloucester Docks and the centre of Gloucester

Tonight’s treasure hunt took us across Alney Island Nature reserves. Additional points were available for wildlife photographs. The star photograph being a frog. Interesting clues were based around the docks, the Oxbode and Gloucester cathedral

President's Lunch

This year our traditional president’s lunch was held at the Three Choirs Vineyard. A trip round the vineyard preceded a very good meal in wonderful surroundings which looked so good in the sunny weather. A really good start to the year

St George's Dinner

Tonight we celebrated St George's Day with a posh do. Ian Towers serenaded us before an excellent meal and afterwards entertained us with music to dance to and a traditional proms finale.

Silent Auction

Tonight members and their partners gathered to offer gifts surplus to requirements an appreciative home. Attendees made written bids to snap up the bargains on offer. Proceeds raised: £680, all for Rotary charities

Speaker Meeting

Colin Youngson explained how and why he became a Gloucester Civic Trust Guide. He told us about interesting Gloucester buildings and people and about the History Festival and Heritage Open Days, rated third best in the country

The Flint Street Nativity

The story is based on real events, collected over a period of ten years from members of Tim Firth's family and friends who were teachers. It was very funny and poignant. Thanks to MADS for this charity performance which raised £661 for Macmillan Nurses

Gloucester North Rotary tonight proved it could organise a .... up in a brewery with a visit to Gloucester Brewery in Gloucester Docks.

Tonight's meeting with partners started with a buffet at Kingsholm. After the buffet members left for a treasure hunt around the centre of Gloucester finishing at a local hostelry.

This year Bob Coles organised our traditional president's lunch at the Cheltenham Chase Hotel. It was a very enjoyable social occasion with pre-lunch champagne followed by a three course Sunday lunch. A great start to Bob's presidential year.

Rotary Young Chef Competition

Young Students at Barnwood Park Arts College will prepare a two course meal. Professional chefs will judge the competition. The winner will go through to the next round of this Rotary National Competition. Further details on members home page.
