PP Edward Morris - 100 Years


Hon Member and Past President Edward celebrated his 100th birthday on May 23rd 2019. On May 23rd 2020 aged 101 he received many congratulations on Facebook from people and Rotarians around the world including the Rotary Club of Cardiff NSW Australia.

Social Events Current Year


We enjoyed a Fellowship trip on 6th March 20 to the Principality Stadium. The tour was led by Steve Attwell of the Stadium staff from whom we gleaned great detail about the building's history, Rugby, Football and international entertainers.

Christmas Events 2019


This page illustrates some of the events in which this Club has participated including visits for carols and presents at Ty Coch & St. Isan's residential homes and Santa visits children at the New House Country Hotel.

Winter Trip to Amsterdam 2019


Our trip this year was to Amsterdam which involved a visit to Haarlem and a boat trip on canals in Amsterdam. It was part of the Christmas social activities of the club. We called it the Phil Nicholls Memorial trip in tribute to Phil who died this year.

Making our Presence Known


We began at Lisvane Station in June 2018 with Geraint Morgan from, now, TFW to plant flowers in the new planters on the fences. We re-planted in October and most recently in May 2019 with 3 additional planters. These pictures are shown. Scroll down.

Remembrance: Armistice 100 years


The Club organised a Partners Evening and vists to Ty Coch and St Isan's Residential Care Homes. At all venues we had readings of poetry and prose from famous writers and members. Additionally the pop up choir led the singing of songs of the time.

"The Wedding"


On 25th August 2018 at St. Pauls Cathedral in London Rotarians Paul Johnson BEM and Jill Shortland OBE were married.

Kids out Heath park


For many years now we have, in cooperation with Cardiff Model Engineering Society, organised this event for children and teachers/carers at Heath Park.

The Rotary Club of Cardiff East hosted the visit of RIBI President Denis Spiller on 7th June 2018 at the New House Hotel, Cardiff.

Centenary of Rotary in Wales Reception - Friday 25th May 2018


A reception was held at the Senedd in Cardiff 0n 25th May 2018 hosted by The Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones to Celebrate the Centenary of Rotary in Wales.

Young Musician Competition


We sponsor young people for this competition annually. This year we sponsored 18 year old Olivia Georghiades a pupil at Howells School. Olivia played Piano in the Instrumentalist section of the competition giving a very good performance.

Young Carers Cardiff & Vale


Rotary clubs of Cardiff and Vale have supported Young Carers since 2004 and have developed a Saturday Youth Club at the Pavilion Centre a programme of Respite Care to help develop their potential and character. Paul Johnson; Jill Shortland Jim Price

Paul Harris Awards


PAUL HARRIS FELLOWSHIP. This prestigious award,established in 1957, is presented to Rotarians and others in recognition of outstanding service, community and Club. Rotarians Phillip (Sapphire) & Julian shown receiving the award in October 2017.

End Polio Now


It's official - The WHO Africa Region has been declared wild polio-free! The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Africa region, has officially been certified free from wild poliovirus, signifying a major milestone in the battle to eradicate the disease.

Disabled Sports


Rotary Welsh Disabled Sports at Newport on 3rd November 2019. Members of Cardiff East provided and supervised Target Tennis. .

Youth Speaks


A full house at Cardiff Golf Club enjoyed a superb evening when teams from six schools competed in the Youth Speaks Area Final. We sponsored a team from Cardiff High in the Intermediate Competition.

Fund raising


President Paul and Rtn. David Miles plus other Members and family attended, as shown here, at a collection for Marie Curie Cancer Care over 3 days on 13th - 16th February 2020 at Sainsburys Thornhill. A total of £1,826 was raised.

Interaction/co-operation With Other Clubs, District and RIBI


Cardiff East seeks and undertakes contact and co-operation with other clubs including social events, fund raising and service.

The Welsh Amateur Gymnastics Association Competition


The Welsh Amateur Gymnastics Association Competition for children with special needs was held at the Wales Sports Centre in Cardiff on 17th March 2017. Rotary sponsored the awards & trophies which were presented by various Rotarians who attended.

International Support for Charities

Scouts and Guides


Cardiff East assisted the Scouts fete again in June 2018 at Victoria Park Cardiff. Members led by Alan and Jen Fleet provided the Tombola stall and ran the "lucky duck" prize game. The club raised over £100 for Rotary charities.
