One of our major events in the town. Held at Gostrey Meadow, there are many stalls and amusements for all ages. Put it in your diaries NOW!
Farnham Weyside Rotary Club is always keen to welcome local women and men of all ages to support their activities locally and internationally and experience fun and friendship while doing that. The Club supports many local organisations, such as the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, Woodlarks Cetre, Challengers, the Farnham Foodbank. It has raised money to help the people in Ukraine and those affected by the 2023 earthquake in Morocco and it is a leader to eliminate polio from the world, where it is still endemic in several countries.
SUPPORTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Rotary in Farnham is committed to working in partnership with Farnham Town Council and others in supporting the environment. We work with individuals and organisations to provide information for those in the community, bringing awareness to the environmental initiatives we support.
As David Attenborough has said: "It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth."
Below is information on our themes for the year. Some of our activities you will be able to join in and some you can support through your own initiatives.
Single-use Plastics: Following the accreditation of Farnham as a ‘plastic free town’ and our part in it we will continue to support the reduction of plastic wherever and however we can.
Waste and recycling with a focus on the three key actions to minimize waste, conserve resources and protect the environment - "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”
Biodiversity which will involve a number of initiatives, one of which is encouragement of swift nest boxes in strategic places in the town.
Community For each month of the year we will pick a national/international week in which we hope to get our local community involved.
Theme for 9-15th March 2026 – BIG PLASTIC COUNT
Help monitor our use of plastics and help to reduce its use by joining the BIG PLASTIC COUNT. You can take part by signing up at: https://thebigplasticcount.com
How the count can make a difference:
Individuals: it helps you to have a clearer picture of the plastic you buy and to ask how you might be able to reduce it.
Influencing Government Policy: it provides evidence to present to government to argue for a reduction in single-use plastics and a ban on plastic waste exports.
Holding Brands Accountable: by identifying the most common waste items – specifically snack packing and fruit and vegetable wrappers – the count can put direct pressure on supermarkets and big brands to switch to refill and reuse models.
Key Findings Highlighted by the Count:
UK households throw away about 96 billion pieces of plastic packaging per year
Food and drink packaging accounts for 83% of the plastic waste recorded
More than half of the plastic thrown away consists of soft plastics (film, wrappers) that are rarely accepted by local councils for recycling
