It is always heart-warming for anyone making a donation to know that their money has been quickly and effectively been put to good use for the benefit of others in the community.
Some weeks ago, a ‘Wheels 2016’ donation of £1000 was passed to The Friends of Bodmin Hospital; this is an organisation close to the hearts of Wadebridge Rotary Club, so the news that the money had been spent quickly came as little surprise, although much interest.
Club President, Martin Broadfoot, was quick to respond and paid a visit to Garner Ward at Bodmin Hospital to see the result. Garner Ward is the Cornwall’s specialist dementia ward offering assessment and treatment of organic mental health problems with dementia. Martin met with Occupational Therapist, Samantha Maycock, who was absolutely delighted to give Martin a demonstration of the newly purchased ‘My Life Software’ and Acer larger-then-life tablet.
As Samantha describes it, “'My Life Software’ is an innovative piece of assistive technology that is powerful and effective for people with memory problems. It is also an aid for families and friends, staff and volunteers. It makes a real difference in helping carers and family members to communicate effectively and offers a person-centred approach. Improving education and training in dementia is key to delivering the National Dementia Strategy and improving the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers."
Wadebridge Rotary Club could not be more pleased to hear that their donation has been put to such use. Martin says: “a huge thank you to the Friends of Bodmin Hospital for working so swiftly and effectively with Samantha Maycock”.
