On Monday 24th February King Charles III visited Staffordshire. He arrived in Burton by means of the Royal Train and was driven to the JCB plant near Uttoxeter. Rotarian Ben Robinson, acting in his role as Deputy Lieutenant, organised the next part of the visit. Burton is the brewing capital of the UK so Ben decided that a visit to Tower Brewery, a small independent company, would be appropriate. Ben organised a guest list representing life in Burton and included current Burton Rotary President David Buchanan.
The King arrived about lunchtime and spent considerable time in the brewery itself, pulled a pint and sampled it. In very heavy rain, he then visited the beer garden. About 40 visitors were arranged in groups. Ben escorted the King around the groups in turn. At each stop the King shook hands and conversed with most of those present. David was in the group representing charities. The King commended the work of Rotary and asked all representing charities to take his thanks and good wishes to their members.
A unique and very enjoyable day.
