Tue, Jun 17th 2025 at 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
A golf competition in memory of a past member who did so much for this Club.
The Annual Archie Gentles Golf competition
This took place on Tuesday June 17th at the Burton Golf Club
There were 3 golfers who played 18 holes and 8 golfers who played 9 holes. The shields for each category are restricted to Rotarians as defined by the original rules and the winner of the18 holes was Mike Styne, and for 9 holes Andy Archer.
We were joined by several guests who played very well!
The event was organised by Mel Thomas who presented the prizes. Thanks are due to him and Burton Golf Club for providing the venue and the dinner.
Mel Thomas comments:
The first time it was played was in 1985 so it has been going for 40 years although due to Covid it was not played in 2019 and 2020, the competition has always been played at Burton Golf Club.
Increasingly more and more just want to play 9 holes, this year there were 8, so last year there was a new trophy “The Dean Thomas” shield which was won by David Buchanan and this year won by Andy Archer with 13 points with David Buchanan, John Weil, and John Carr equal second with 12 points.
Nobody won the nearest the pin on hole 2 but David Munday, one of our visitors, won a bottle of wine donated by Andy Archer our IPP, for nearest the pin on hole 18 after 2 shots.
It was a fun day with a higher turn out than last year so the event is as popular as ever.
