The Club’s guest on 22 March was Councillor Simon Elford, Mayor of Bexhill. Most club members will remember Simon who is a director of Scale Model Technical Services, manufacturers of model cars and vehicles, which the club visited last year. Simon, who has been a councillor for seven years, spoke of his year in office which finishes in May this year. His role is civic not executive and he has attended a number of ceremonies with other Mayors and has represented Bexhill at a various local and more distant functions. Simon chose as his charity this year “Charity for Kidz” a charity known to and supported in the past by Senlac Rotary’s Trust fund. Among the events he organised to support the charity were the Mayor’s Charity Ball; he has also undertaken the Hastings Half Marathon and has been persuaded to take a sky-dive.
The Club’s Senlac Trust Fund was able to further his cause by making a donation after his talk, President Glynn performing the honours. Fellow Rother Councillor to Simon, Rotarian Stuart Earl, gave a vote of thanks to Simon describing him as an exceptional ambassador for the town.
