Senlac Rotary was honoured to welcome some 22 members from our neighbouring club in Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour Rotary Club. The club is relatively new having been formed in 2009, through the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Eastbourne. Like Senlac, it is a very active club and has an increasing membership, with seven new members since the summer and more in the pipeline, they now have 36 members. A good mingling of members before and during dinner saw much chit-chat and exchanges of ideas.
The after-dinner speaker was Senlac Rotarian McCall who stood in as a replacement for a cancelled speaker.
Eddie, an expert on World War 1 history, spoke about the war in 1917, a year chosen because it is a hundred years ago and the year in which his grandfather was killed in action. Eddie spoke passionately about how the war developed through the battles of Arras, Vimy Ridge, and Passchendaele, illustrating the talk with graphic contemporary photographs and slides. Rotarian Roger Young expressed a vote of thanks to Eddie.
Sovereign Harbour President, Gordon Jenkins, thanked Senlac Rotary for their hospitality and very warm welcome.
