The Hungerford Repair Café was in action again on 19th July

The Hungerford Repair Café was in action again in the Croft Hall on Saturday 19 July. Around 30 visitors brought items in need of repair, a few things couldn’t be repaired but more than 70Kg of items were saved from going to landfill.

This free community event has been running for four years. In that time the team of helpful volunteers has repaired a huge variety of items.  There is a regular flow of lamps, toasters and toys as well as a good number of precious items that have sentimental value to the owners.  On Saturday, a visitor brought in a very special screen and two of the volunteers worked together, combining their skills to restore it to working order.

The events are run entirely by volunteers, most of whom come back regularly, why do they do it?  A few recent comments from the repair team:

“I enjoy like-minded company and I learn something from the others each time. It’s often like solving a tricky puzzle – and if I get stuck there are others to share ideas with. “

“I enjoy fixing things and helping people to understand how things work. Children’s toys are often really satisfying, it can mean a huge amount to a youngster to see their precious plaything brought back to working order.”

New volunteers are very welcome. If you think you would enjoy being part of this friendly scheme, please get in touch via the Hungerford Repair Café Facebook Page or email hungerfordrepaircafe@gmail.com.

The next Hungerford Repair Café is on 20 September from 10 am until 12:30 at the Croft Hall.
