The Members
were given a talk from Dita Stanis from The Pilgrim Foundation which is not to
be confused with The Pilgrim Trust. Dita is the Chairman of the Trustees. An experimental Psychologist with a wide variety of interests ,he is passionate about the town’s history and culture.
The Trust was founded in 1999 and received Charitable status in 2017. Its main objectives are to advance Community developments and to improve the historic character of the town. Grants are awarded for relevant projects. The Trust hasbeen involved in such projects as the upgrading of Church Square and Logies Lane, Harbour repairs including the Harbour Bridge, the Bow Butts Bandstand, the Tom Morris Statue, and the many plaques to Champion Golfers which can be found around the Town. The funding for these projects come mainly from the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation and the Trust’s own online auction for a Golf Package with V.I.P. treatment. The next big project is the complete refurbishment of the Whyte Melville Memorial Fountain, to have a fountain working as it was first envisaged.
After questions, the vote of thanks for a fascinating and enlightening talk was given by Graham Clark.
