ROTARY PRESIDENTS’ 70th ANNIVERSARY HANDOVER
Richmond Rotary Club is celebrating the arrival of its new President John Morton as it reaches its 70th anniversary. The handover ceremony took place this year at a dinner at Tennant’s cloisters in Leyburn, where the outgoing President Mac Bryant met with John Morton in the company of Richmond Rotarians and Distinguished Guests. The chain of office which was handed over includes the names of Past Presidents dating right back to 1955.
On leaving office Mac Bryant said:
“It has been a great pleasure being President of Richmond Rotary Club for the second time.
Amongst many things during the year we have held our Best Kept Village contest, an Art Exhibition, Christmas raffle and Schools Technology Tournament with other Rotary Clubs.
In addition, we have raised money through street collections for various emergencies and have donated over eight thousand pounds to a variety of charities.
I welcome our new President John Morton and wish him a happy and successful year.
I am sure that with his considerable experience in Wensleydale Rotary Club he will do very well.”
Taking up his role John Morton emphasised his desire to enable the Club to continue to thrive and develop its contributions to the local community.
In taking over John Morton said:
“Rotary Clubs like Richmond do an amazing job for their local communities as well as giving members a great deal of fun and friendship. I plan to organise our business in a way that encourages new people to join us.
Continuing to develop our links with the community of Richmond will be very important and I hope that we can inform more people about Rotary’s many achievements both locally and in other communities around the world.
This year’s Rotary logo includes the message ’The Magic of Rotary’ which sums up what is a very special organisation.”
