Scarborough Mencap Centre

Following a talk by Jenny Stamford on the 20th November 2024, supported by her colleague Gemma regarding support they require  funding and expertise to build the purpose built Mencap Centre which will continue to serve the community of Scarborough delivering excellent care in a creative community by a committed sta.

I would like to say thank you to Jenny and Gemma on behalf of the Scarborough Rotary Cavaliers for sharing their story. Their dedication to building a purpose built facility in Scarborough for individuals with mental disabilities and their carers is truly commendable, it’s evident that their vision extends beyond just providing basic support, they aim to create a space where clients can thrive, learn, and live fulfilling lives, supported by compassionate and dedicated sta.

The details of their proposed facility-respite care, modern bathroom amenities with ceiling tracking, a cafe, a teaching kitchen, a further kitchen, laundry services, and more- highlight their thoughtful approach to addressing the practical and emotional need of their community. These facilities promise to not only improve the quality of life but  also foster independence and dignity for the individuals they serve.

With over 40 years of diligent work in Scarborough, their passion and perseverance clearly resonate. Their call to action for the wider community , especially through groups like Rotary Cavaliers, underscores the collective eort in bringing this vision to life. Supporting such a project is not just about funding a building - its about investing in a legacy that will benefit generations. This initiative deserves the full backing of the community, not only for its practicality but for the heart and humanity it represents.

Let’s hope their dream becomes a reality..  Pauline Armstrong (Rotary Cavalier)
