High Wycombe Unmasked

At our evening meeting on 29 January 2025, we were treated to a riveting talk on the history of High Wycombe. 

William Reid, a Scotsman and inspirational speaker who was an instigator of the Jubilee 2000 project and a great supporter of ‘Street Kids’, gave us a virtual ‘historical’ walk around High Wycombe. 

We heard that 250 years ago High Wycombe was considered the wealthiest town in Bucks and only 150 years ago was the No.1 furniture producer in the world. 

Railway connections were described through recent history and the influence of Frances Dove, founder of  Wycombe Abbey School was detailed through the last century. Two British Prime ministers are buried in High Wycombe…..who knew that!
