On Wednesday 12th February the Club members were pleased to welcome Michele Eccles from the Longfield Community Hospice.
Michele spoke about the history of Longfield and explained that the hospice was formed by two nurses 31 years ago and was originally called Cotswold Care Hospice and the name Longfield came from the original building that was built on the Long Field.
Many sessions and classes are held at Longfield including a Well Being Centre, Drop-In sessions for those needing help and support, there is always someone on call to answer the telephone, and help for early onset dementia and Alzheimers.
Nursing at home is also very important and nurses may visit patients in their own homes three times a day and at night to give help and support..There is also a bereavement counsellor available at the hospice.
Fundraising is very important as the hospice has to rely mostly on donations from the public and fundraising efforts.
Stonehouse Rotary Club has recently donated £900 to
Longfield and the pictures show President David Sollis and Michele Eccles at
the presentation and members of the club holding the cheque.
