Friday 19th June 2015 saw the second running of our charity golf day for the benefit of our two charities “Smile4Wessex and Heartbeat”.
The day could not have gone better with 15 teams turning out in glorious sunshine with virtually no wind at all. The round offered 9 prize holes – four hole in ones with the 10th for a car and the other three for £750, £250 and £250, four nearest the pins and one longest drive. Unfortunately no one got a hole in one, so those prizes were safe.
At this point I feel I should point out that our rotary team Magic of Rotary, (Russell, Steve Nick and Jeff) did not place in the first three, but still gave a very good account of themselves.
The evening fundraiser was a meal in the restaurant at La Grande Mare, with a cash raffle, kings and queens game and of course an auction. The club had a table of 11 with our guest being Michael Beausire from Le Mont Saint Garage
I am delighted to report that over £8,000 was raised to be split evenly between the two charities. This is a staggering amount when considering we do not have a main sponsor! The meal was attended by 83 people.
Our MC for the night was Neil Westbrook from Smile4Wessex who did a brilliant job with keeping the evening to time and also running the auction.
Nigel Dorey from the Rotary Club of Guernsey thanked all the sponsors, but highlighted two, Le Mont Saint Garage who provided the car for the hole in one and covered all associated costs and Peter May for Hewlett Packard who provided free packs of golf balls for all players and also other items used during the prize giving.
Other sponsors covered everything from single hole sponsorship, to prizes to auction items, all of which help to make the event such a successful fund raiser. All sponsors are listed on our web page under “sponsors”.
Thanks were also given to Jaine Vermeulen and the whole team at La Grande Mare Hotel for making the event such a success.
The overall winners were MGC Group who made this their second year in row as champions.
