A RECORD YEAR FOR GUERNSEY’S 2017 ROUND ISLAND WALK
Rotary’s organising team of this year’s Guernsey Round Island Walk announces that 2017 was a record year. Committee chairman Simon Milsted said, “We were particularly keen to make this a special year as it is the 20th anniversary year of this annual event in our Rotary Calendar. By chance this coincided with our event sponsor (Saffery Champness) celebrating 40 years in business on the Island.
“Our efforts were rewarded by an amazing 908 participants on the day. Already the sponsorship is rolling in taking us towards our target of £75,000 of grants towards defined projects being proposed by 28 local charities.”
Rotary was grateful for the support of both the Lt Governor of the Island, Sir Ian Corder, his wife Lady Corder and the Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas. They not only took part on the Walk personally but turned up at the start at 4.30 in the morning to encourage and thank our bleary eyed volunteers.
The celebratory mood was carried throughout the day as the walkers made their way round Guernsey’s beautiful 39 mile coastline. To get a fuller flavour of the day find us on Twitter and Facebook to see the posts made by walkers and helpers during the day.In conclusion, the Rotary Clubs in Guernsey would like to express their heartfelt thanks to event sponsors, Saffery Champness, the many other corporate sponsors and the huge team of volunteers without whose help the event could not take place.
