The Walk 2025 breaks records again - raising over £100,000 for local charities
Our iconic Saffery Rotary Walk has once again smashed records, raising over £100,000 for 25 local charities and welcoming more than 1,200 walkers to its 39-mile coastal route.
The much-loved event was celebrated at a special presentation evening hosted at Guernsey’s Government House on Tuesday 9th September by His Excellency, the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant General Sir Richard Cripwell KBE CB.
Now in its 27th year, the Walk has become one of the island’s biggest community fundraising efforts - and 2025 was no exception.
This year’s acting Walk Chairman, Rotarian Nigel Dorey, described the turnout and totals as “phenomenal”, crediting the record-breaking registrations and rising sponsorship totals to the continued commitment of the Guernsey community.
“We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved this year. Every person who signed up, raised money, volunteered, or supported our walkers has played a part in something genuinely special,” said Nigel, “this is a fine example of our two Rotary Clubs working together for the community.”
“Our presentation evening is a chance to reflect on that - not just the funds raised, but the energy, effort and generosity of volunteers and walkers alike, who collectively make this event what it is.”
Each of the 25 beneficiary charities was invited to receive their share of the funds directly from His Excellency on the night - with many expressing their heartfelt thanks for what the donations will enable them to do in the year ahead.
His Excellency spoke warmly about the impact of the Walk, calling it a shining example of the island’s community spirit and a vital source of support for charities under pressure.
Lisa Vizia, Director at title sponsor Saffery Trust, said: “Supporting the Saffery Rotary Walk is one of the most meaningful things we do. It’s not just about fundraising - it’s about recognising the hundreds of people who come together each year to give back, in ways big and small.
“From the early morning marshals to the final few steps at the finish line, the Walk is a celebration of everything good about our island. We are incredibly proud to be part of it.”
She added: “Huge thanks to His Excellency, Lady Cripwell and the team at Government House for their ongoing support and warm hospitality once again this year.”
The Saffery Rotary Walk Committee will soon begin preparations for the 2026 event, with organisers promising more community impact, more charitable support - and, if this year is anything to go by, more records to break.
