At their most recent meeting, Hawick Rotarians were given a talk by one of their own members, Councillor Jane Cox, on the variety of allowances and grants which might be available to them. Jane is SBC's Executive Member for People, Governance and Change.
She began by explaining Attendance Allowance, and Personal Independence Payments before moving on to the various schemes relating to Home Energy. Sustainable Borders Home Energy Advice can be contacted at 07496 997817 or at angela@sustainableselkirk.org.uk . There is also the ECO4 Scheme which can be reached at energyadvicehelpline.org Free Home Improvement Grants are at present only available for homes with an energy rating of G and H.
She then told members of initiatives which can be accessed locally, such as the Burnfoot Food Share Hub, Mindfulness courses, the Boots Over 60s double points reward scheme, and Iceland's Over 60s 10% discount on Tuesdays, before ending with a recommendation to use Senior Railcards which offer one third savings on rail journeys.
That this was a most useful and interesting talk was shown by the number of questions she then had to field before Linden Warburton gave a well-merited Vote of Thanks.
