A very different sort of meeting took place on 6th March. A group of ten visited the Borders College building on Buccleuch Road to learn of the work being done on Renewable Technology and Energy Conservation. Very ably led around by lecturer Richard Cook, our members first visited the unit dealing with retention of heat in 'Passivhaus' type buildings. Floor, roof and wall insulation was discussed, as were solar panel and battery installations, and ground- and air-source heat pumps. Then it was through to the unit focusing on boilers and pipework, before visiting the robotic technology classroom. Richard did an excellent job of imparting information and fielding the many questions raised, and was thanked by Rotary President Iain Smith who had set up the visit.
The Rotarians and Richard then moved to Adam's Kitchen on High Street for a most sociable meal.
