Guest speaker: Sarah Jones, CEO, Y Bont - one of our centenary projects

Past President Win Griffiths introduced our guest speaker, Sarah Jones, CEO of Y Bont, one of three projects supported by Rotary Bridgend during our centenary year.

Sarah is pictured above, on the right with husband Rob, Acting President David Hubbard and guests from our other centenary projects - Dr. Sylvia Fowler & Jeremy Evans from Heronsbridge School and Will Denny & Alison Docherty from Y Bwthyn Newydd.

Y Bont is the only specialist early years provider for children with complex needs, life limiting conditions, disabilities and emerging needs in south Wales.

Specifically for children with complex needs, Y Bont provides:
 - an accessible nursery setting for children from 6 weeks to 5 years to enjoy and learn
- an after school club for 5 to 12 year olds
- a holiday club for children from 6 weeks to 12 years.

It costs £30,000 per month to run Y Bont, yet there is no funding available for children under statutory school age with complex needs, disabilities or life limiting conditions. Funding for afterschool and holiday clubs is very limited with most parents ineligible for any funding.

Y Bont provides not just childcare but also support for the families through the early years journey for their child. Rotary Bridgend are delighted to have supported, with Hiddlestone & Son and Sofa Sofa, refurbishment of the family room, making this a more welcoming and functional space for families and staff.

Tony Berrow, a member of Rotary Bridgend’s centenary team, gave thanks to Sarah for such an interesting, informative and, above all, passionate presentation.
