We have a range of opportunities for voluntary work coming out of our projects.. Three which deserve special mention at present are:-
1) Veterans Project. We started working some time ago with Surrey County Council to provide support and help to local Army Veterans. The idea was to provide a social gathering, but even more than that, provide them with interesting activities. This has blossomed and now involves Archery, Model Building, day excursions to a canal trip on the Wey Navigation, Superbloom at the tower of London and many more. We need people who can provide support from, at the simplest level, organising and providing teas and coffees in the local Church Hall, to going with the Veterans to events, such as Archery. If you are sociable and can help please contact us. See Street Party
2) Allotment Project. Together with SCC and Ewell Rotary we run an allotment with the intention of providing therapeutic gardening and giving the produce to local charities. This has worked so well, beyond our wildest dreams, and we are now supplying produce to The Pantry, a charity grocers/greengrocers in Epsom. The other allotments are also joining in and we have supplied flowers and eggs!! Again, if doing some sowing, weeding, watering and harvesting appeals to you, please contact us. Usual meeting times are Wednesday morning and Saturday morning. See Allotment
3) The Old Moat Garden Centre. We run a group of people tending the walled garden at The Old Moat. The Old Moat Garden Centre is run by The Richmond Fellowship, supporting people with mental health issues such as recovery from a mental breakdown. We mow the grass regularly on the first Saturday morning of each spring, summer and autumn months. See Old Moat
We are very fortunate to be able to call upon the help and assistance of many individual and business supporters, who give us valuable assistance, time and practical support to help us on our projects, in running events and raising funds. Individual supporters are non Rotary club members, however without their help and input we would find it very difficult to provide the breadth of service and activities that we undertake.
Our individual supporters are often too heavily committed or working outside the Epsom locality to be club members and they wish for no publicity, however we do thank them for the tremendous help and contributions we receive.
Our business supporters help us in many ways for example by providing such practical assistance as transport, meeting accommodation and facilities to raise funds. Even our "Tilly the Train" which we use at Christmas and at events during the year is maintained and housed by one of our business supporters. They play a vital role in enabling us to continue and again we thank them for all their help and support and we mention them on our website page
If you would like to discuss becoming one of our individual or business supporters, please contact Tony Axelrod by phone on 07986 947974 or by Email at epsomrotary@live.co.uk .
Many thanks once again to all supporters of Epsom Rotary.
