Service and Community Projects

We are not just fundraisers... Did you know that the Rotary motto is 'Service Above Self'? Read more about this here...

Shoeboxes

Guernsey is hugely generous and every year we donate around 4000 shoeboxes. Rotary Guernesiais (helped by volunteers from Rotary Club of Guernsey, Inner Wheel and many others) receive, check and sort each one. We are required to check each one for contraband (food and liquids are a big no-no I'm afraid) and if we have to take something out we always out something else in. The boxes are sorted into age group, counted and then boxed up. Thank goodness for the local fire service who every year help us load up nearly two container loads! We collect the £1 and send this on to the headquarters to cover onward distribution costs (fortunately for us Alderney Shipping generously ship the containers to England free of charge).

Senior Citizens Tea Party

Every year we host a lovely tea party for 100 senior citizens. Age Concern and other charities contact and organise transport. Our members love to chat the folks and we always have a scrumptious afternoon tea, raffle, music and entertainment as well as a cheeky little glass of sherry on arrival.

Kids day Out

A fab day out on a Wednesday in June for a cohort of children from Les Rondins school. Rotary Guernesiais takes the children (and their teachers) to Herm for a lovely time on the beach and then onto the Mermaid for lunch and entertainment. We love to meet the children and their teachers.

And so on...

We get involved in various community service events (for example Beach clean, Healthspan Night Ride) and sponsor local children for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Let us know if you have a proposal we can help with.

Our committee is lead by the wonderful Hannah Laidlow, who you can contact with the link below.
