Settle Saunter

The 2021 Settle Saunter

Sunday 13th June 2021

The Saunter is an annual walking / running event along footpaths and bridleways taking entrants into some of the quieter and lesser known parts of the Yorkshire Dales. It passes through some picturesque rural villages and hamlets, and over some of the lower fells around the small market town of Settle. It is organised by The Rotary Club of Settle with help from members of  the local community.

Routes

There are three routes on offer, accommodating a wide range of abilities and all can be run or walked. Dogs are welcome provided they are kept on a lead.

A half marathon (21k / 13 miles)
And 37k / 23 miles

The 23 and 13 ml routes visit the picturesque locations of Feizor, Austwick and Clapham, Oxenber Woods SSSI and Stainforth Force with the 23ml route returning via Victoria cave , Attermire Scar and Cleatop Nature reserve .
The 6.5ml (10k) route visits Giggleswick village before ascending Giggleswick Scar and returning via Langcliffe village.

We welcome all-comers in the expectation that they have a reasonable level of fitness to complete their chosen route. Under 18s are most welcome for the 2 shorter routes but we do have some safeguarding rules for them.
These are :

Registration, start & finish on the day is at the Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle, BD24 9DZ [GR 818 637].  Maps OL2/OL41
We will be using staggered starts to avoid overcrowding at the event centre.
23 mile walkers will register between 8.00 and 8.30, 23 mile runners between 8.30 and 9.00
13 mile walkers 9.0 to 9.30, 13 mile runners 9.30 to 10.00
10k entrants between 10.00 and 11.00

Entrants will need to book registration time slots from a drop down menu which will be available a few weeks before the event.
This year we can't provide food as part of the entrance fee but the cafe in the Victoria Hall Garden will be open all day , serving drinks, sandwiches and cakes

Sadly, we had to cancel last year’s event because of Covid and this year we will have to make some changes to our arrangements in order to keep volunteers and entrants safe.

This year we may have a limit on numbers and entry on the day is not possible.

If we need to cancel again or change the date of the event because of the pandemic then any entry fees will be refunded (minus the booking fee).

This event is organised by the Rotary Club of Settle. Each year the event raises money for charities with past events providing funds for Cancer Research, the Clapham Cave and Fell Rescue, the Alzheimers society and funds to help rebuild a primary school following the devastating earthquake in Nepal
