International and the Rotary Foundation

Rotary activity throughout the World

International Service

As well as supporting the local and national needs, Rotary International also has a commitment to overseas communities.  Disaster relief is needed all too often and help is provided mainly through Shelterbox, Aquabox and Disaster Aid.  These are all Rotary partner organisations and our volunteers are often among the first relief agencies on the scene of disasters and natural catastrophes.

The creation of clean water dams on a self-help basis, meals for school children in exchange for them attending school daily and the provision of a small loan for those who are too poor to have access to conventional financial services all help to promote a healthy and vibrant society in many poorer countries.  To this end we also support Marys Meals, School In a BagRotary Sand Dams to Africa and Rotary D1040 Micro finance schemes throughout the world.

In addition to supporting the above excellent projects, the Rotary Club of Skipton has been helping the KASIN appeal run by the Rotary Club of Settle.  KASIN (Kids at School in Nepal) helps, amongst other areas, to fund an after school club, provide the annual food for a children’s hostel, sponsor 80 of the most needy children to attend school, provide school equipment and resources all within the 5 Year Community Plan for Tamang Kharka.

As KASIN’s Mission statement says “All children have the right to a decent education. We are helping children from disadvantaged communities in rural Nepal to realise their full potential.”

End Polio Now

Rotary Clubs throughout the world, through The Rotary Foundation, have been major supporters and volunteers of Polio eradication. Clubs and individuals in Great Britain have donated more than £20m.  We are partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, WHO and other major supporters.  See the current position at End Polio Now.
