Billericay in Bloom

First Prize Winner Mrs. M Pellat

One of the Town Council' s success stories is the annual Billericay in Bloom competition now in its sixteenth year. It is said that from small acorns giant oak trees do grow and that is an apt simile to apply to the competition. From just a few categories and contestants it has grown year by year to be a big social event in the town with lots more categories and contestants.  The competition continues to be very popular, and has attracted a bumper "crop" of contestants.

As in previous years, the Rotary Club of Billericay sponsored one of the categories of the Billericay in Bloom competition.   This year it was the awards for Category D - the “Best Kept Large Back Garden" section of the competition.  Other local businesses and community organizations sponsor other categories of the competition, some directed at the general public, some to businesses and even some for children such as best garden in a container.

As reported in the Evening Echo, Chairman of the Billericay in Bloom committee, Councillor Moira Moore said: “When you've got residents, commercial premises, public houses and sheltered accommodation residents all working on making their gardens look beautiful, it's great for the town."

“We were slightly down on numbers this year but it's still been a hugely successful year – but the more people, especially the commercial premises, that take part next year, the better the town will look for everyone.”

In the presence of BBC Essex Gardening Guru Ken Crowther, Club President Keith Wood and his wife Gill, were on hand on Friday July 5th. 2013 to hand over the Prizes for our sponsored section of the competition.

The Prize Winners were:

First Prize:       Mrs M Pellatt
