Stirling Rotary meeting May 1st. 2015
President David Paterson welcomed members; there were no visitors. The Wylkedin golf contest has now attracted no less than 21 teams, whilst the Gavel (pub games) final will be fought at Pitlochry, between our team and Nairn Rotary. The president delivered a few well -chosen words about the late Jim Keenan, of Alloa Rotary, who died recently. Over £1000 has already been raised via the Just Giving website, in connection with the cycling event. Council have committed to funding a Shelter Box for the Nepal earthquake disaster and, to this end, Stewart Wilson has arranged a collection at the Thistle Centre on Wednesday 6th.
Treasurer Edmond Mansion then organised and ran a geographical quiz, with a bottle of Rotary Malt as the prize. A collection of photos, taken during Edmond’s travels, were shown on the screen and members asked to identify the locations. All of them featured outdoor scenes, mostly involving climbing or skiing, concepts somewhat unfamiliar to many of those present. In the end, Crawford Gordon won by a substantial margin, with a score of 22 out of 25 and received the aforesaid bottle. President David provided the Vote of Thanks, which was well supported. This week’s Speakers Host is Tom Wilson, with Visitors Host Elspeth King. For more information on Stirling Rotary, please visit the club’s site at www.stirling.rotary1010.org.
