Christmas Market - December 7, 2014

Once again the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower organised a superb Christmas Market for the people of Billericay, and judging by the numbers there, many people from the surrounding towns.

It was again very cold, but many of our members braved the cold to man our stall, and help to sell more of our raffle tickets in aid of the fight against the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.  Special mention must also to be made of our Billericay School Interact Club, whose members also came along to help sell the tickets and were a great help to us all.

The event itself featured a free Santa’s Grotto in the Day Centre, and free Punch 'n Judy performances in the Reading Rooms at various times throughout the day. There was the traditional Santa’s Parade led by our Town Crier and the Caledonian pipe and drum band in the morning, and, for the children, pony rides and a small funfair in the main car park.  Plus, of course, live entertainment on two stages, carols in the church and lots of traditional Christmas Fayre, Hog roasts and mulled wine.

And of course, regular performances by the Morris Men at various points in the High Street throughout the day.

With well over one hundred of Billericay's shops, restaurants and outlets open for the day, there was a really great atmosphere.

The Rotary Club of Billericay principal activity was our Grand Raffle which was dedicated to raise money to fund the fight against Ebola, with a donation amongst others, to M
