President Peter Mehta welcomed members; there were no visitors to this Extraordinary General Meeting, held to discuss the past year and look ahead to the future. The president, secretary, treasurer and conveners presented reports. The club will now be able to provide support to the ARION swimming club, after a hiatus due to the lack of a suitable minibus. A collection for good causes will be held at the Thistle Centre on December 29th., from 10.00 to 16.00. Winners of the Euroscola competition, Bethany Mackay and Shona Candlish, will soon be heading to Strasbourg, home of the European Parliament, for a 5 day event, culminating in a debate conducted entirely in French. We wish them every success.
Aided by local schools, the shoebox collection of useful household and other items had yielded 150 filled boxes, which was very satisfactory. As regards the next rotary year, commencing July 2016, council proposed communications convener Ranald Ross-Watt as Junior Vice President and this was agreed by those present. Traditionally, the JVP serves for one year, becomes Senior Vice President for the next 12 months and finally advances to President for the year after. This procedure helps he or she get used to the requirements of the task before taking over and has proved very successful.
This week being Scatter Week, when members try to visit nearby clubs, there will be no meeting. In fact, because of the upcoming Presidents Night, the next lunch will not be till December 11th., when a Christmas menu will be offered. Speakers Host at that time will be John Rankin, with Visitors Host Gordon McCulloch.
Rotary welcomes applications for membership from men and women who wish to give something back to their community. To see more about what we do click on our website http://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.php?ClubID=56
