on Monday evening, a joint meeting with Stroud Rotary Club, was Lindsey Braune, Joint Proprietor
of The Cotswold Auction Company.
Lindsey told us of her background, starting out studying linguistics, before becoming a Chartered Surveyor, specialising in art and antiques. She worked under a building society umbrella in Cirencester, then buying out the auction side to establish The Cotswold Auction Company.
Lindsey then told us about the current somewhat depressed antiques market, but gave us some pointers to areas that are improving. Surprisingly for me she mentioned stamps as enjoying a revival. Time to dig out that old boyhood collection of mine! She told us of a forthcoming release of British Railway posters by Harry Riley, recently discovered by his daughter while clearing out the family home. The auction coming up in August in Cheltenham is sure to generate interest from railway nuts in the Club.
Lindsey then entertained us with valuations of items members bought along. We all appreared quite pleased with the valuations except Julian who expected more. We finished with an antiques valuation quiz. I did rather poorly!
So our first joint meeting with Stroud was a great success – good fellowship, entertaining speaker.
