This was a memorable evening for several reasons. The setting of the Town Hall is always special and the young musicians added atmosphere to the pre-dinner drinks and Martin Hinchcliffe a Close Up Magician completely amazed us all. Peter, in his speech paid tribute to John Harrison's excellent year and set out his ideas for the coming year, for which his theme is "Time, talents, and giving for the benefit of others". He also probably broke a record with the induction of a new member - Robert Jones - within 5 minutes of taking office! The Priory choir performed their now traditional tribute to the outgoing president to the tune of Amazing Grace. The extraordinary number of verses showed just how much has gone on in the last year.
A further highlight was Margaret Tasker's "ditty" in the style of Pam Ayres:
I quite fancy having a title, would it impact on everyday life?
something a bit mor exciting that the boys' mum or the doctor's wife!
If hubby had got himself knighted, Lady Tasker would give me more fame
The Rt Hon would sound pretty good though I'd settle just simply for Dame
But at last our status has risen-dizzy heights before us appear
If Peter's become your new President, I'm First Lady for the whole of his year.
