Able to Sail


Able2Sail is a Scottish registered charity set up to provide sailing experience for those of all ages with a disability and for those affected by disability ie carers, siblings etc.

They operate a 46ft Bavaria sailing Yacht which has been minimally adapted to accommodate those with disability.

They also have a superb Grand Banks 42ft motor yacht which was gifted to the charity in 2013.

The boats operate fro Kip Marina.

Allan will give a talk explaining how they operate and make a difference to the lives of those with a disability.

He is a trustee of the charity , the treasurer , and a skipper of the sailing boat.

In addition Allan has provided the following C.V.:

I Retired 7 years ago as senior partner in The Kelvin Partnership Chartered accountants.
I trained as a CA in Glasgow and on qualifying took a four year contract with Peat Marwick & Mitchell CA in Jamaica .
On returning to Scotland in 1976 I joined Grant Thornton CA before setting out on my own firm which became The Kelvin Partnership.
In my retirement I am trustee/ director of :

My other interests are:
Rugby
I finished playing the game with Helensburgh Rugby Club at age 40 I continue to be involved with running the club and was treasurer for more than 20 years.
Sailing
I am a keen sailor and consider West Coast of Scotland to be amongst the best sailing grounds in the world. I share a 36 ft.Beneteau Oceanis sailing yacht with an old friend. We keep the boat on a mooring in Loch Aline on the Morvern Peninsula opposite Fishnish on Mull.
My wife Heather and I are looking forward to our first grandchild due in May .
