Rotary Primary 7 School Quiz
Our Club has participated in this Rotary venture for 12 year old pupils ever since it was first dreamt up by Rotary’s “powers-that-be” in 2004. Clubs arrange a quiz competition between teams of four from their local schools and the winning team competes in a final arranged by District later in the year.
This year Jordanhill School hosted our quiz. Although we had nine teams entered only seven took part. St Marnock’s School had to call off at the last minute due to an overnight fire at their premises and the High School teacher was away ill and had not passed on the details to the relief teacher. The schools taking part were Craigholme, Kelvinside, Swinton, St Aloysius, Hutchesons', Glasgow Academy and the hosts, Jordanhill.
The teams are given up to ten rounds, each consisting of six questions, covering diverse subjects such as scottish and local features, geography, history, maths, national flags, company logos and a general knowledge round all dreamt up by Ian Dale who provided a power-point presentation. Ian Callander acted as Quiz Master while Alex Waddell and Ian Wylie marked the results.
For the first time the
quiz finished in a dead heat between Jordanhill and Hutchesons'. A single tie-breaker
question between the two then gave victory to the Hutchesons' team who will now
represent our Club at the District final which is to be held on 6th
June at Pollockshaws Burgh Hall.
St Marnock’s pupils were so upset at missing the quiz because of the fire that we contacted other Clubs in the Glasgow area and arranged for them to join the competition being organised by the Rotary Club of East Kilbride Kittoch.
