Sport/ Over £9000 raised at Chiltern Charity Golf Classic
8 September 2016 at Harewood Downs Golf Club
Rotary Charity Golf Day a great success
Amersham Rotary’s 30th Chiltern Charity Golf Classic, was held on Thursday (8th September) at Harewood Downs Golf Club.
After two separate nine-hole individual stableford competitions in the morning, sponsored by Cansdales of Little Chalfont, 80 golfers took to the fairways for the main event on a mainly bright and sunny afternoon where a sharp breeze made golfing a challenge on Harewood’s fast greens.
The annual Charity Golf Day is Rotary in Amersham’s major fund raiser and proceeds this year will go to Rennie Hospice Care as well as other local charities supported by the club.
The main sponsor of the event and sponsor of the afternoon Golf Classic Trophy was Silverson Machines of Chesham a global leader in the manufacture of shear mixers, and it was perhaps fitting that the CEO of the company, Harold Rothman, and colleague Paul Marshall, were the eventual winners of the competition with a magnificent 46 points.
After a hard but enjoyable day of competition, the golfers were able to retire to the bar for a welcome drink before the evening presentation dinner and a small but lively auction conducted by Hugo Lemon from Amersham Auction Rooms.
While the final total will not be known for some days, Rennie Grove and other local charities should benefit from around £9000 raised on the day.
Winners of the two morning individual competitions were:
- Stuart Holcroft off the 1st Tee and George Restall off the 10th Tee.
Afternoon winners of the Chiltern Charity Golf Classic trophy pairs competition were:
- Harold Rothman and Paul Marshall
Winners of the ladies’event were:
- Rosie Hunt and Carolyn Boyle
