Rotary Quizzing – the sequel

A mere fortnight after their previous endeavours, the Rotary quiz team was in action again on 21st October.

Once more, six brains of Rotary stepped forward to meet the challenge: Paul Boote, Martin Broadfoot, Peter Chapman, Nick Saunders, Kevin Smith and Roy Vannoey. And this time we came second, with 88 points, ahead of ‘Dads’ on 82.5 (a satisfying reversal of the previous event). The winners were ‘Misfits’ on 92.

Rotary took the lead on the first round, with 21 points (out of 22) on games and films, but dropped back badly through our inability to identify bands with numbers in their names in the music round. We only managed to spot UB40, Three Degrees and the Dave Clark Five, whilst the likes of One Direction went right over our heads.

General knowledge and characters from Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter brought us back into contention, but even being able to identify ‘Point Break’, ‘The Brittas Empire’ and ‘The Commitments’ (amongst others) in the TV and film picture round was not enough to make up the gap in the face of a continuing strong performance from ‘Misfits’.

The quiz was run (as you might guess) by Robin Moorcroft, this time in support of the Wadebridge Carnival. Robin announced a profit of £385, but then the proceeds of auctioning raffle prizes (generously given back by second-time winners) and the bar takings (swelled, it must be said by several bottles of wine for the Rotary table) took the sum over £470.
