Single Parent & School day trips to SeaLife, Birmingham

Sea Life, Birmingham

Started in 2015, the concept of the Day Trip being to reach out to local single parent and low income families in the local community and offer an all expenses educational and fun day out to an attraction - something that they would otherwise be unable to afford or access. The opportunity to attend is open on a first-come first-served basis and is annually oversubscribed.

Sea Life Birmingham was selected as the attraction as it offers a combination of location, education and fun elements we thought would appeal to our target families.

Since inception in 2015 up to the current day we will have provided this day out for 335 children and companying adults (on an 80/20 spilt of children and accompanying adults). Children’s ages range from 3 years old to early teens.

Such was the popularity of this event as well as reaching out directly to target families via local agencies (i.e. local shelters, women’s refuges, charitable organisations and family liaison officers in schools) we approached a local school, Standens Barn Primary with a plan to run a parallel day for their school. With a mix of single parent and low income families and recent arrivals to Northampton it was agreed that the Sea Life trip would greatly benefit their students (age 7 to 8) as part of their Key Stage 2 education.

Nene Valley have provided transport (local coach company) Lunch (local catering company) and entrance to the attraction. Each day costs the club circa £1,000.

We are planning further trips in early summer next year.

We strongly believe that the benefits accrued to the children and parents attending these days’ trips is a very valuable contribution to their welfare and education.
