2019/20 Planning Meeting

Tue, May 28th 2019 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

An American visitor was welcomed as the Club meeting got underway.

Walker Brown has been a frequent visitor to these shores over a 20-year period, mainly on golfing expeditions. He is a Rotarian from North Carolina’s Rotary Club of Chapelhill, which has a membership of more than 200. Walker gave a brief but interesting review of some of his club’s projects, including their financial support for two of their members – both dentists – who regularly travel to Africa to give free dental treatment to underprivileged children.

Walker and President John Spittal exchanged club banners before John invited President Elect John Fernie to outline his plans for the new club season 2019-2020. He will officially take up the reins of office next month.

John gave a detailed description of his thoughts and hopes for the coming year, with particular emphasis on what he considered the main themes of Rotary – friendships, networking, flexibility, diversity and family inclusion.

He hopes to continue the successful recruitment policy of the club and is investigating ways to attract and recruit younger working professional people. This would undoubtedly assist the Kilrymont Club in its ongoing and valuable commitments to a large variety of youth projects, both as a sole supporter but also in conjunction with other clubs.

There had been a number of new projects and social events introduced this season under John Spittal’s guidance and John Fernie’s intention is to continue and build on these highly-successful programmes.
