On Wednesday 19th September Ben Spokes from Bristol towed along his lovingly restored white and yellow caraboat named “Frog Prince”.
Parked in a nearby field members were able to walk around and view the vessel while Ben explained the mechanical and technical workings of it.
After moving back into our meeting room a good meal was enjoyed and Ben continued his talk with a power point presentation. He explained that he had found the caraboat, a caravan and boat all in one vessel, on an auction site and had paid £600 for it. It was in a very poor condition but he bought it with a view to restoring and using it.
The vessel is one of 63 manufactured in a small factory between 1970 and 1973. There are now only 10-15 left and it is hoped that at some point some of them can be traced and a reunion held.
Ben is helped by his wife Michelle and they attend the Retro Caravan Club rallies regularly. They have been involved with T.V. companies and have appeared on the “My Floating Home” programme. Ben concluded his presentation by showing an excerpt from the film.
