Senlac Rotarian, Bill Heynes, was presented with a civic certificate of appreciation by outgoing Mayor, Abul Azad, during the annual meeting of the Bexhill Charters Trustees at Bexhill Town Hall on Wednesday May 29th.  After he retired Bill went to a country fair and was so inspired by watching a wood turner at work that he decided to take up the skill as a hobby. Bill has turned many pieces, including a number for Senlac Rotary, since he started the hobby but has eased off over the last few years. When asked by Councillor Jimmy Carrol, a fellow Rotarian, if he could make a gavel to replace the Council’s which had gone missing Bill jumped at the opportunity to have another go. The finished article was presented to then Mayor Abul Azad at a meeting of Senlac Rotary in March. Abul and the Council were so pleased with the gift that they invited Bill and his wife, Grace, to the annual Mayor Raising ceremony and presented Bill with the certificate. The Mayor, on presenting the certificate, expressed the Council’s thanks, “Bill has made a magnificent job of making a new gavel and stand which will be proudly used in future meetings. We are pleased to show our thanks by presenting Bill with a Civic Certificate of Appreciation”.

Bill said afterwards, “It was a lovely occasion for Grace and me to attend and I’m so happy that my gavel and stand have been so well received.”
