At last week's meeting of Hawick Rotarians, Bobby Cairns introduced his guest speaker Gordon Jackson MBE. Gordon was Chief Guest at the town's 2019 Colour Bussing and treated members to an account of how he was approached to fill that role and then to tell them of the very many Teries who made him proud to be a part of this community. Questions followed and then members praised Gordon for his most interesting talk and for the manner in which he had carried out his role over the Common Riding period.
The Club held a most successful Coffee Morning last Saturday at Trinity Church Hall which raised almost £600 for the International Committee's chosen charity On Call Africa, which involves Borders clubs, led by Langholm, supporting a project to provide a robust ambulance to improve access to healthcare in rural Zambia. One of the founders of this Scottish charity, and its chair of trustees, is Dr Kirsty Luescher, herself from Langholm. Each year up to 20 volunteer doctors from the UK help to provide treatment, teaching and training.
