Weekly Meeting at Oake Manor Golf Club

Mon, Jul 15th 2019 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Speaker Justin Roxburgh from Arc Inspire

21 Members and 15 guests from Inner Wheel and partners met at Oake Manor to hear the speaker Justin Roxburgh update us on ArcInspire (Pres Kathryn’s chosen Charity for her year).

Arc is a local homeless charitable organisation, supporting over 350 people per year. Our mission is to end rough sleeping in the South West, through housing, assisting, supporting and empowering homeless people in Somerset

Justin said - Formerly known as Taunton Association for the Homeless we have been in existence for more than 40 years, now with 15 properties housing 174 people. As well as providing accommodation Arc aims to ensure no-one has to spend more than one night homeless, with our Outreach Team working hard to support rough sleepers, getting them into accommodation as quickly as possible.

Arc understands that it is not just about having a roof over your head so we help our clients on a road to recovery, inspiring and assisting them to move forwards through a positive journey to independence.

This includes the opportunity for clients to join our in-house ‘Arc Academy’, offering free activities and courses, alongside 1 to 1 support from our Pathway Workers. Once a client is ready we help clients move into independant accommodation with schemes such as tenant accreditation and deposit guarantees.

They have recently launched an Armed Forces Covenant to help support ex-service personnel with PTSD.

He reported that the two young people this Club had funded, were now in stable occupation and accommodation, and a real success story.

Future funding projects could be - Mendip Activity Centre, An equine/human experience centre, a Women’s Activity centre and money to help people hire a van to move house.

Ian Harkness moved a vote of thanks.

Business - A notice had gone round asking for supporters to attend the District Skittles Final to cheer on our Club’s Team. Names to Richard Goring.

Kathryn asked for Facebook followers to “Like” our MoonrakerChallenge page and boost its publicity.

Next Meeting 22nd July at SCCC – Business d/r M Hill.

29th July is the Hinton Skittles competition at the Lamb and Flag, Blagdon Hill. d/r P Hughes
