The Rotary Club of Senlac Fundraiser at Shiplu Tandoori Restaurant

Over £500 was raised at a fund raising dinner held at The Shiplu restaurant in Bexhill on Tuesday, 12 November. The dinner was held to raise funds for Senlac Rotary’s charity, “The Yellowmen of Kadongdong”, and over 40 diners enjoyed an Indian buffet thanks to the generosity of the owner, Mr Abul Azad. The Yellowmen are formed by local Rotarians and friends, including professionals in health and education, and journey to the Pokot region in north-west Kenya twice a year to help the local people who are among the poorest of the poor. The Yellowmen’s projects include building new hospitals and clinics together with associated accommodation, providing health care and educational assistance and advice. On each visit they also take much needed drugs to be distributed through the clinics and hospitals. Yellowmen organiser and co-ordinator Eddie McCall thanked the evening’s Chris Folley, the evening’s organiser, and Abul Azad for hosting the event and said, “Every penny raised goes to projects in Kenya and over the years we have been able to provide so many things that the people would never have had. We have been fortunate to have nurses, engineers among others to provide their skills. We need to raise about £20.000 a year to run the project and we are wholly reliant on donations from the public. Yellowmen meet all their own expenses such as travel and subsistence.”
