Ryo Shimazu is our Rotary Scholar from Japan who is studying at UCL and he gave us a very professional and informative talk about his life and studies. He is a language and literature teacher at the Tamagawa Academy which is located in the Yokohama/Kawasaki region just south of Tokyo. The academy covers a range from kindergarten to post graduate and covers an area larger that Disneyland Tokyo. Ryo outlined his progress through the Japanese education system which served to highlight the differences between our respective systems. He is clearly a dedicated and progressive teacher who is seeking to use his time in London to find ways to increase the interaction between pupils and teachers when he returns to Japan. We are very fortunate to have such a scholar this year.
