Quiz night raises cash for Macmillan Cancer Support

The quiz evening raises over £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The cash is specifically for the local cancer unit in Dorchester.

The winning team - Gary Masala

A very successful quiz evening for Macmillan Cancer Support

The main thrust of fund raising in this Rotary Year is to provide funds for the local Macmillan Cancer Support activities linked to the Dorset County Hospital based in Dorchester. It isn’t generally realised that some staff and hardware are funded by Macmillan, and the club decided to make Macmillan the primary beneficiary for the year.

The quiz evenings are always a bit different, with rounds not necessarily following tradition – a round entitled ‘blue’ was one. So, as an example, what was the Okavango Blue? Why not come to the next quiz and find out! As always it was a bit close, with the team called Gary Masala winning after having to complete a tie break triple question. Wooden Spoon winners were Nantes Ninjas who had a very enjoyable time, with lots of laughs during the evening. Two teams tied with 54 points, and then a team with 53, so very tight at the end.

We raised over £700 after expenses, with the raffle making a good contribution, thanks to a number of sponsors (Dorset Wines, Duchess of Cornwall Hotel, House of Dorchester, Monart Spa, Poundbury Wealth Management, Poet Laureate and Waitrose plus other sponsors).
