Speaker meeting at SCCC

Mon, Mar 9th 2020 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Young Somerset

"28 Club Members were present, plus Peter Ball, President-Elect of Taunton Mother Club, and the Speaker Pam Hutt from 'Young Somerset'. Stephen Jenkins was enthusiastically welcomed back after his long absence.  Kathryn then awarded Stephen with a Paul Harris award for his contribution to the Club, which was also enthusiastically supported.  Well done Stephen!

The Speaker, Pam Hutt, gave a very comprehensive response to questions from Members about 'Young Somerset - a youth work charity'.  They have 45 employees plus volunteers who work with young people with ages ranging from  8 up to 25, although most are teenagers.  Some of their youth activities are open to all, while others are targeted support that helps young people to get accreditation in specific work disciplines.  Currently 20 of their staff are Mental  Health workers, but the Charity plans to increase the number of Youth Workers. They are targeting Taunton, although they work across Somerset.

In giving the vote of thanks Tony advised that ' Young Somerset' was likely to be one of his two charities in his Presidential year.

Kathryn obtained Members support for continued presence at the Taunton Flower Show on 7th/8th of August.  The Moonraker date was confirmed as October 10th - more information to come. Tony confirmed that the three Club event was now Two Clubs with four couples coming from Redon, and a lively weekend. The Queen's Concert was on next week and Terry would appreciate more volunteers to help out.  The Technology Tournament will take place on March 26th. The Breakfast Club are having a Wine Tasting on March 11th at Rumwell Hall and all Club Members are welcome.

THERE IS NO MEETING NEXT WEEK - 16th March.  The following week -the 23rd - will be a Speaker Meeting with Tony's likely second selected charity -

'Night Stop' DR Bill Bain.  Ball Draw won by Richard Austin in his absence in South America, but no Joker, so £20 on the 23rd.
