The area heats for the Competition held at Vyners School in January 2020

A new venture for our Club - the Rotary Young Chef competition

This is an amazing and challenging national competition for students who are over eleven but under the age of eighteen, mainly at schools and colleges. It  runs through an entire series of heats right the way up to a national final. An area heat for the competition was held at Vyners School in Ickenham on January 15th 2020. It took place after school hours, and went wonderfully. According to the judges, the standards were really great.

So, what do the contestants have to do? They have to plan, prepare, cook and present a three course meal - all within two hours. Most of us will have seen TV Chef competitions - that is just what it was like - and all very, very real!

The schools participating were Vyners, Douay Martyrs and Northwood with 2 entrants from each school.

The high standards did present the judges with that inevitable difficulty, picking the winner! it was not just a case of the best tasting food, but a real in depth test of a broad range of skills. Quite a challenge for the competitors - and for the judges.

It was a really close decision, but a student from Vyners won and went on to the district heat - where he came a very good third against serious competition.

What next? We are looking forward to the next competition of course!
