Tools With A Mission - May 2020

Sewing Machines to Africa in the fight against poverty

Rotary Club of Bradford on Avon are pleased to approve a donation to the UK based Tools With a Mission (TWAM) charity that will enable three serviceable sewing machines to be distributed to families in Africa to help in the fight against poverty.

TWAM is a charitable organisation that is committed to serve the vulnerable and ultra-poor by working with those who share their compassion to alleviate poverty and suffering. As stewards of the earth’s resources they take great care to collect old and unwanted tools and send them to be refurbished, put into trade packages, such as Carpentry, and gifted to people following a trade training course. This enables people to earn a living and eliviate some of the issues that extream poverty brings.

Donated tools also save thousands of tonnes of waste destined for UK landfill sites every year.  Their good stewardship extends to all aspects of their work, whether donated tools, financial gifts, or the opportunity to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities to people across the UK.

Bradford on Avon Rotarian David Lane is one of a number of designated TWAM volunteer collectors in this area. David also refurbishes some of the old hand tools he collects and is happy to collect your old salvageable tools should you wish to recycle them to a good cause.
