Cotgrave Food Bank

Club helps local food bank

‘ROTARY SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY’

COTGRAVE SUPER KITCHEN runs from the old Miners Welfare

building in Cotgrave. Supporting the local community with free food,

both hot and cold, donated by local stores such as Aldi, Lidl, and

 the CO OP.

Run by Jill Mathers with the aid of less than a dozen volunteers,

mainly wives of ex miners, they supply Cotgrave and the surrounding

villages, such as Colston Bassett and Radcliffe not only with a door to

door delivery of hot and cold food but also a venue to collect fresh

vegetables and canned food. Recipients are largely recommended

by local GP’s, social services and word of mouth.

The Trustees of the Miners Welfare, themselves strapped for cash in

the tough commercial environment of the time, have recently raised

the rent of the CSK to £100 per month which Jill is struggling to pay

. Delivery costs of over £2000 per annum are also difficult to fund

 from donations only.

RUSHCLIFFE ROTARY CLUB have stepped in to not only offer

logistical help in collecting and distributing food but also financial

help to offset the increasing costs of transport and rental. Local

Rotarians such as Sandra Morrey are undertaking weekly delivery

of hot meals to local residents in their own transport, others are

involved in bulk collection from the generous donation of local stores.
