Made in Bexhill

Wed, Nov 3rd 2021 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The club’s speaker was Michelle Rose who is the founder of “Made in Bexhill”, an organisation for “Creators in Bexhill: Writers, Artists, Crafters and Creators”

Michelle had written to the club asking not for money but for help and was invited by Club Community Chairman, Barry Pick, to come along and talk to the club. Michelle explained that she was asked by fellow crafters to set up a selling group on Facebook, she had originally set up a group "Bexhill Craft and Home Projects” in March 2020 to help people through art and creativity, while in lockdown.

Made in Bexhill was started with the principle that everything made in Bexhill should be sold locally to support our local community. All creators selling on the Facebook page were required to give back 10% which would go to our local charity, of our choice. The group bonded, grew and supported each other through the pandemic. Their first outdoor event was the ‘Summer Fair’ in Egerton Park, Bexhill were there were over 30 Stalls, all the children’s crafts were free and donations accepted. The event covered their costs and insurance for the year and the stall holders did really well.  “It was a beautiful day where locals met up and chatted in the park.” Since the inception 10%  from the sales has enabled to the group to make a donation of £1,200 to Bexhill Caring Community, As Michelle said,” What a fantastic group of people who started working together in November 2020, while in lockdown”

However, the purpose of Michelle’s visit to Senlac Rotary was not to ask for money but to ask for help in future events that she has planned. Not only was she suggesting fun for those taking part but also suggesting that it could be a fund raiser for the club. Not a small number of members was very enthusiastic!
