Introduction & race format: The 2022 Dragon Boat Challenge runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday 12 June at the North Yorkshire Water Park, Wykeham, off the A170. Teams of 17 paddle in 12 metre dragon boats in a series of races culminating in a grand final in the afternoon. In the past we have involved upwards of a thousand people (crews and their supporters) and this year there may be well over fifteen hundred people friends and family of competitors plus a thousand visiting the Water Park attractions.
A large throng for a Summer day in Scarborough! And this number of paddlers will raise a goodly sum for charity.

Presentation evening Wednesday 13 July: This will be a BIG BBQ where all the donations raised by the generosity of our sponsors and the energy of our paddlers will be handed out to the nominated charites.
Location & facilities: North Yorkshire Water Park YO139QU Supporters and family can use the Water Park facilities see https://www.northyorkshirewaterpark.co.uk/ on payment of the normal rates. A children’s’ funfair, bouncy castle and entertainers will also be available. Well behaved dogs and owners on leads will be welcome.
Refreshments: There is a spacious on-site café, there will also be a wide variety of concession sales outlets and a fully stocked bar.
Car parking: There is ample car parking on the complex.Toilets are situated strategically through the Water Park site.
Boat sponsorship and ££: Generous organisations sponsor a boat entry at £450 this enables the event to happen!! Crews of 17 to raise money for a charity. Sponsors are encouraged to select crew and charity to benefit from the paddlers fund raising efforts. Boat sponsors are headlined in pre-event publicity, including significant exposure in ‘The Scarborough News’ in May, advertising in social media and the race programme, and at the presentation evening on 13 July.
Individual paddlers donate a single entry fee of £10, and are asked to commit to raising funds for charity.
If the sponsor does not muster their own crew we will usually be able to pair up a limited number of crew teams with sponsored boats to raise funds for charities.
Paddlers and safety: Safety boats and first aid facilities will be available all day. Paddlers should be reasonably fit and able to swim 50 metres with buoyancy aid (provided).
Prizes, on the day and at the presentation evening: Medals - 1st , 2nd and 3rd for winners and runners up crews will be presented on the day. At the presentation evening sponsors support and paddler efforts will be acknowledged, and members of the press will be invited.
At the end of May teams, sponsors and supporters will get detailed joining information, and details of a WhatsApp group.
